NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will question Congress treasurer Ahmed Patel at his residence on Tuesday in connection with his alleged links to Chetan and Nitin Sandesara, fugitive promoters of Sterling Biotech Ltd (SBL), who have been accused of duping public sctor banks of Rs 15,000 crore of loans, sources said. He was earlier questioned on Saturday.
Patel, who is political advisor to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, has been asked to explain his association with fugitive businessmen Chetan and Nitin Sandesara, the Vadodara-based promoters of SBL who are now in Nigeria.
The SBL group had taken loans of Rs 15,000 crore from public sector banks and allegedly laundered them in tax havens using more than 260 shell companies registered in different jurisdictions, the ED claims. The agency has already attached assets worth over Rs 14,400 crore of the group in connection with the case.
